A new gift shop has opened on Edgewater Drive in College Park. The Good Crowd is owned by a College Park local who unfortunately I did not get to meet on my visit, so I don’t have much to tell you regarding her back story. I can, however, tell you all about what the new shop has to offer.

The shop occupies the old Alchemy salon space, my salon of many years, so it was interesting to see cute furniture where I use to get amazing scalp massages during my washes. The space overall didn’t change much as they kept the multi-colored flooring and the glass bathroom door, but they did add a beautiful abstract mural that livens up the back of the shop.

Not unlike neighborhood gift + home goods shops like Paper Goat Post, Yay! Tiny Shop, and Miscellaneous Market the Good Crowd has a nice selection of gifts or treat yourself items that offer more variety for niche gift seekers than the local TJMaxx. For instance, if someone you love has an affinity for llamas, there are several llama gifts.

In the space, you’ll find kitchenware items, bar-ware (I grabbed a cute whiskey tumbler for my dude), home good items, a little bit of children’s clothing and toys, stationery and pads for those of us addicted to buying cute notebooks, and accessories.

There wasn’t a large variety of local goods sourced on the shelves quite yet, although there were a few. I will say, it will be hard to browse the shop and not make a purchase. The prices vary (my tumbler was $18 and a friend purchased a book for $15) so depending on your budget you should be able to find something in your range.

In addition to retail, the Good Crowd is looking to host events with local makers. The back of the space has a seating area that can accommodate small workshops. Coming up they are hosting a floral centerpiece workshop with Petal and Stems Market, a pop-up with Orlandough, and a handheld bottle opener wood burning workshop with Alyssa Makes Something.

As College Park continues to see turn over on the drive in the restaurant space, I’m hoping more independent retail opportunities will get locals out and about to support the local shops, especially during the unpredictable summer months.

Good Crowd is located at 2812 Edgewater Drive in College Park. The current hours are 10 am - 7 pm every day except Sunday.
