A true doughnut lover travels for doughnuts, never resting until they've tried them all. It was almost a year ago that I followed a little blue truck over to the West side of Orlando to a food truck rally and tried Little Blue Donut Co. for the first time.
I don't discriminate against any type of doughnut, but I have a strong affection for a good cake doughnut. It's even better when I get to order them fresh, choose my own toppings, and enjoy them while they are still hot. If that's the type of doughnut experience you are looking for, what owners Mike and Alyse have created should definitley be on your doughnut rotation list.
They've taken over the old Scratch space on Fairbanks Avenue (right near Park Avenue) and will be opening their doors on Tuesday, April 17th.
They kept the same banquette seating that was originally in the space and updated the interior with dark wood tones, pops of their signature blue, and a fun graphic tile that hugs the counter space.
Much like the truck, you will fill out your doughnut order form (found on the counter when you walk in) and hand it to the cashier. You can watch through the clear partition as your doughnut is topped and delivered to you.
Additionally, they will be brewing Kahwa coffee from St. Petersburg, as well as offering matcha, and local mylks from Sweet Utopian. If you are a doughnut purest and need milk to go with it, there are selections in the fridge near the front of the shop. My favorite personal touch is that coffee can be served in the iconic greek to-go coffee cups that northerners, like Alyse, have a nostalgic connection with.
The little blue truck will still serve the community and be available for catering and weddings, but for now Mike and Alyse are settling into brick and mortar life before they rush back to operating the truck.
Hours will currently be:
Tuesday to Thursday 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Friday 7 a.m.- 9 p.m.
Saturday 8 a.m. - 9 p.m.
Sunday 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Hours could be tweaked as they go through their first few weeks of operations so keep an eye on their accounts for any changes.
The address of their shop is 223 W. Fairbanks Avenue. and for easy parking there is a lot on S. New York Avenue.
